The university is known for practice-based teaching, with courses accredited by professional bodies in business, computing, engineering, health and the built environment.
Its schools of Art, Jewellery and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire give it a creative depth few modern universities match, and its health faculty is one of the largest trainers of nurses and allied health professionals in England.
