How to apply, step by step
- Secure admission and, for public universities, complete any entrance exam requirements
- Apply for the D visa at the Swiss embassy; the file goes to the cantonal migration office
- Processing takes 8 to 12 weeks, so apply as soon as you are admitted
- Register with the local commune within 14 days of arrival and collect the permit B

Working on a student visa

Is Switzerland expensive for students?
