Overview
The Australian Qualifications Framework covers everything from vocational certificates to doctorates, and every course open to international students carries a CRICOS registration.
Levels and how long they take

| Diploma / Advanced Diploma | 1 to 2 years | Vocational or university pathway programmes. |
| Bachelor's | 3 years (4 with honours) | Honours is an extra research year. |
| Graduate certificate / diploma | 6 months to 1 year | Short postgraduate qualifications, often stackable into a master's. |
| Master's | 1.5 to 2 years | Coursework or research. |
| PhD | 3 to 4 years | Research degree. |
Grading
High Distinction (85%+), Distinction (75 to 84%), Credit (65 to 74%), Pass (50 to 64%).
Intakes

| February (Semester 1) | Main intake. Apply by October to December. |
| July (Semester 2) | Full second intake at nearly all universities. |
| November | Trimester intake at some universities and colleges. |

How much does the Australian student visa cost?
The application charge is A$2,000 from 1 July 2025, non-refundable. Add OSHC, biometrics in some countries and a health examination.
How many hours can I work in Australia as a student?
48 hours a fortnight while your course is in session, and unlimited hours during official breaks. The cap is monitored through your tax file number.
Is a study gap a problem for Australia?
Gaps of up to two years are common and accepted with evidence. Longer gaps need a clear Genuine Student statement explaining the reason and how the course fits your plans.
