The eight questions
- Why this course? Two specific modules and one career it leads to.
- Why this university? Something you could not say about any other university: a facility, a placement scheme, a research group.
- Why this country? Recognition, course length, post-study rights, subject strength. Not "it is my dream".
- Why not study at home? A specific difference in the course, the industry links or the qualification's recognition.
- How are you funding it? The exact figures and sources, matching your financial documents.
- What will you do after graduating? A realistic role and place, consistent with the visa rules.
- What do you know about the course structure? Length, modules, assessment, dissertation or project.
- Where will you live? The city, the type of accommodation and roughly what it costs.
How to prepare
Read your own statement of purpose the night before; the interview must match it. Read the course page and note three module names. Know your fee, your living cost figure and where the money is. Practise answers aloud in English at least twice. We run a mock interview with every student who is called for one.
What loses interviews
Reading from a script, answers that contradict the documents, not knowing the course modules, and saying the main reason is to settle or to work. Nervousness is fine; contradiction is not.
